Give the skim a week or two to dry out

1 to 2 weeks for the skim to dry sufficiently...as to removing old sealant i just use a sharp stanley to cut away the sealant and then white spirits and a cloth and plenty of elbow grease.

I've a box of a hundred safety edge razor blades off the internet, they are fantastic for any tradesman and great for slicing silicone off tiles/shower tray/bath etc.
