Default 10 mm notch trowel?

Is it ok to use a 10mm sq notch trowel for ceramic floor tiles. I always use a 20mm round. But was told today this method was ok? would save on adhesive.
but does it achieve a solid bed

a 10mm notched trowel is fine..bakbutter if necessary to achieve solid fix....you can get a solid bed trowel in nearly all sizes of trowel....as long as the notch depth is greater than its width then it will give a solid bed......dave..

I use moon trowels, but have used 10mm & 12mm notched trowels in the past. As above, check for coverage as you go.

thanks for replys. I always used to backbutter all floor tiles. But i suppose with flat tiles you dont have to? I normally put a blob on each corner. No wonder ive been so slow on floors. Its just knowing what you can get away with. when you tile on your own theres no one to tell you whats what. hence why theres so many tilers on this website

I only back butter if its UFH, deep notches in tile under side, or on an all over the place floor. I just spread the addy with a 10mm trowel, and check every other one for coverage. As long as there are no areas without addy, tile away.
