some tilers fix straight onto masonry, personally I'd like it either sand and cement rendered or dot and dab plasterboarded.

Re: 600 x 600 porcelain tiles...
if the wall is flat enough then there should be no problems, either that as doug says dot an dab plasterboard or preferably hardie-backer

Re: 600 x 600 porcelain tiles...
yes its ok to tile directly onto brickwork BUT there are a few thing to consider...
1. is this a domestic or commercial situation? just thinking of the insulation/thermal requirements??
2. is this an old building? are the walls traditional 9 inch or modern cavity?
3. what kind of brick are you tiling onto? face brick, concrete/engineering brick
4. also, how high are you tiling? mechanical fixing may be needed also.

Don't use PVA use an acrylic primer!!!

These are porcelain tiles so check your adhesive carefully.

Re: 600 x 600 porcelain tiles...
Gotta get the right adhesive as John says...its amazing how many people still try to put porcelain up with tubbed adhesive...they go up easy enough...but they always come down a lot easier...and not when you want them to!!!
