So is this advertising a tiling course to the public?
And which store was this in?

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
Very clever marketing. On the back of this they will sell tiles, adhesives, grouts, books and every tool going and not bear the responsibilty for the dogs dinner that will probably result from it.

LMFAO Sandy, exactly what I thought. I would feel sorry if anyone is duped into it.
Dan it was Trafford Park Branch. Think the radio ad runs on XFM.

No it's the guy who drives the floor cleaner round. It's to keep him busy inbetween sweeps!

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
Dan, it is aimed at joe public/DIY'ers, not tradesmen.
As sandy put it, just a very clever marketing campaign.

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
sod the d.i.y'ers lets all make it a farce
how can you diy a trade, they wouldn't do a 10 minute course on bricklaying or roughcasting! it's totally demaeaning of all the trades they pick a finishing trade and think anyone can do it!
NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would imagine it's quite basic to give potential DIYers the confidence to have a go. When you think of all the early retirees around and needing something to do over the winter there's a big market.

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
Probably not that different to the little 'how to tile DVDs' that used to be given out, all basic stuff... probably won't do much harm, the reality is so very different, it may just generate more rather than less respect for good tiling?

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
No doubt they'll have a dry cut machine and show cutting a tile they wanna get rid of that cuts really nice and general basic stuff I guess

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
fair -play to them

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
I suppose that some general guidance - if it included aspects like setting out and planning in particular and preparation - could save people a lot of grief.

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
Do you think they will demonstrate cutting B&Q tiles with a B&Q dry cutter? Or will they produce an already cut tile from under the counter !!

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
You know, I'm not sure, but I think it might be something to do with Construction Skills College Limited (tradeteacher.co.uk). He mentioned something about B&Q the other day when I was there.

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
seriously though, B&Q diy gear is all ready mixed. how on earth are they going to demonstrate and teach people to tile properly when the materials they are using are not always up to the job...
I've just found it on their website. Click on decorating... apparently they can teach you to tile in 4 hours

Re: B&Q - Tiling Course!!
I bought a B&Q tiling DVD from car boot sale a few years ago it showed the basics of setting out around doors, windows etc and the use of a gauge rod.
It of course promoted the use of the nasty B&Q tubbed addy and didn't mention you can't use it on big tiles!
I'll never forget I was in the builders merchants once and a guy came in with a dot & dabbed tile that had fallen off. He came in to complain about the ready mixed adhesive he had bought.
The tile was way too big for that addy, he had PVA'd his smooth new plaster and placed 8 blobs on each tile, they nearly all came loose while grouting. The addy on the tile (2 weeks fixed) was still moist and the PVA had come off and was sticking to the flat smooth blobs of the back of the tile.
He said the adhesive was faulty and wanted a refund, the counter rats said we've never had any problems before!!
When I told the diy'er his mistakes and that the adhesive he had bought was not suitable for the size of tile and that PVA was a no no, he was gratful but had never heard of powdered adhesive.
