Remove single wall tile
Some help please. We have some pattern tiles dotted about the kitchen. We have enough spare plain tiles to be able to replace them, but how? That is how can I remove a single tile without damaging the tiles around it.
My guess is one needs to remove the grout, (grout remover or power tool?), and then break the tile and remove it. Done lots of tileing DIY but never attempted removal of tiles in this way, so some tips and advice would help a lot.
Many thanks.

Re: Remove single wall tile
Yep you seem to have the right idea. Get as nuch grout out from around the tile otherwise you may damage the next tiles to ot.

Re: Remove single wall tile
Yep, best way is to remove the grout first, if you try and break out without removing the grout you could shock the next tile whilst breaking out the tile and cause the adjacent tile to crack..

Re: Remove single wall tile
I've done this a few times and I always use a fine drill bit to chain drill the grout and make it easier to remove. Works for me. As you have realised a crack in the tile being removed will often run through the grout and into an adjacent tile.

Re: Remove single wall tile
p1150440_l.jpgthis is what you need. can get from any of the DIY stores for about £5. rake out the grout, break (not smash) up the tile with hammer, careful as edges are very sharp, make good and replace with new tile and re-grout.
