    Default Laser level floor screeding

Hi lads just bought myself a Hilti PML 32 laser level as i had posted a while back i was going to get one and i did

Now my question is for leveling floors can i use this laser level to find out how bad the floor is up and down or is that a stupid question ? just wondering has any1 used them for that purpose

i will be using it to set out bathrooms then using a stabilla level i'm tiling 13 years but i wouldn't be great at floor leveling and screedin, wanna learn more about it,Ive done a bit of it but don't like to take on big floors rather get some1 to do it thats always doing it

Anyway just wondering and looking for some advice from people on this site as its a very good site for getting new ideas and different way of doin things

    thx

Just set the laser up at a convenient heihjt then use a staff to mark the height of laser near the actual unit. Next move around the floor with the staff, carefully watching the 1st mark on the staff. If the floor drops the laser mark will move above the line, if you get a high point the lazer line will be below the existing mark.

I quite often take my laser level when seeing floors. There is allways a surface i can sit the unit on and check for level. The clients never argue with the laser but If i did it with a straightedge and level they would try.

As above.....I use this method on all my large floors when measuring up for a quote. Takes minutes to find the high and low points of a large floor, and makes it quite easy for the customer to see the true levels of their floor.

does any1 have a proper guide on how to do that like when you say you sit the unit down on a surface u mean on the floor ? then you get your staff and go around to see how the floor is

Doesnt really matter what you sit it on. Usually for me its a work surface, window cill or even a upturned brick...Ideally it wants to be waist height so as it makes it easier to see without bending down all the time. Anything can be used as a staff. A 6ft level is ideal.

hi sparky, take a look at this thread (the screeding video clip)

    floor screed - vid clip

it shows a laser being used...the guy uses a receiving staff, but you can just use a staff/tape measure or whatever.
strike a laser line around the room (datum line)...the standard height of a datum line is usually around a meter high...
from this line, you can go around the room with you staff or tape measure and establish the highest and lowest point of the floor. whatever the difference is, is how much you floor runs out...

the highest mark on your staff is the lowest point of the floor
the lowest mark on your staff is the highest point of the floor

    hope this helps a bit
