Silicone o tile adhesive?
Silicone or tile adhesive?
Hi all,
I would like to know what the prefered method is for filling the gap where the floor tiles meet the wall tiles, I use floor grout at the moment but can't help thinking I should be using silicone. If silicone do you just use white? Current bathroom has beige wall tiles and dark grey tiles on the floor.
Also on a similar note regarding plastic tile trim, I've seen loads of bathrooms (done by others) where the grout has cracked where it meets the tile trim round the window etc, for this reason I have always used white silicone is this right? I use silicone wipes etc and make a very neat job of it.

Hi Bob, silicon every time for me, preferably one that matches the wall grout colour

Thanks for that, do you use silicone in the tile trim gap?

Re: Silicone o tile adhesive?
Silicone all day long, it's there to take up any movement between, as for colour, Mapei do a wide range of colours to match their grouts so it's easy getting a good match.
And I use grout between trim and tile, reasons for grout cracking are normally improper mixing ratios.

Re: Silicone o tile adhesive?
I silicone all internals with matching colour to the grout. As Alan said...... it sounds like improper fixing of the trim if it cracks after grouting.

Re: Silicone o tile adhesive?
Maybe I'll use grout on this one and see how it goes, I use Webber powdered grout and always make sure the trim is fixed properly.
Is it silicone round all the edges of the walls then? Top, bottom and sides?

Re: Silicone o tile adhesive?
All internals except tile to ceiling and for that I use decorators caulk because it can be painted.

As Stewart said for me as well, all internal corners - wall to wall, wall to floor, boxing in, bottom and top of window reveals, upto door architraves, around window frame, bath and or shower. I dont silicone wall to ceiling, i leave this for the decorator to caulk so he/she can get a decent paint finish rather than it smearing all over the silicone. Just grout for the trim, i wouldn't be confident of not ruining the finish with silicone even using jointboys.
