grout additive - cheaper alternative to Bal GT1 - SBR bond?
Hi I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to grout additive GT1 as it works out very expensive.
I used to use Bal SBR bond additive with cement based adhesives and also as a primer, until I discovered Everbuild SBR bond which is SO much cheaper!
Does anyone know of any grout additive alternatives? Can the SBR be used with grout?

most manufacturers only guarentee there product with another of there own product so if you mix n match then if anything goes wrong the blame lies at your door

I bought 25 litres of sbr for £60, used it for many uses and have mixed with grout many years ago, don't leave on a tile surface to long otherwise you could be in big trouble trying to remove from the tile surface.

Thanks Whitebeam, yes I'm thinking it will be alright to use as well.. if it has waterproofing, strengthening and adhesion qualities with adhesive surely this would also be true for grout.
Thanks for the tip about not leaving it on the surface too long as well.

Why not just use a polymer modified grout..?.. Using a product not designed for the particular grout might hinder drying times and it will deffo hinder the warranty of the product..

I'm going to be using Bal Microcolour - I'm grouting porcelain 600 x 400 on bathroom walls and floor with a 2mm joint - I'm sure this grout will be fine but I wanted to add something to give it a bit more pot life than the quoted 30 mins
