Problem resolved!
Since my last post I managed to contact the workman and offered him the chance to put right work so far and complete the tiling after which I would pay for two independent inspections of the finished job by those qualified to give an opinion. He said he knows there are many mistakes so doesn't want any payment and told me to use the money to have the job finished properly and for repairs to my washing machine.
So, I am sort of relieved that I don't have to face a barrage of abuse again and have the opportunity to get in a competent tiler to put it right.
I apologise for my stream of posts regarding this matter but it has been necessary to get correct information and advice from those who are familiar with this trade.
Thankyou once again.

Re: Problem resolved!
Glad you have it sorted
Maybe you can put a post in the http://www.tilersforums.co.uk/im-loo...l-floor-tiler/ section and get someone to come finish the job for you

Re: Problem resolved!
To Sir Ramic: It was a guy who did some plastering for me on 2 previous occasions (and did a satisfactory job). I contacted him to see if he could recommend a tiler. He put himself forward so I was under the impression he was a multi tradesman. He brought along the other two as labourers although that wasn't mentioned during his visit to price the job. I didn't say anything when all three turned up as I thought h had subcontracted then to get the job get done quicker. Suffice to say they did do some of the tiling and were the ones who gouged out holes in the floor and a chunk out of the step when removing crooked tiles.
It turns out that he is not qualified in any trade but from what I understand he doesn't have to be.
Nevertheless I think it's misleading when he has 'professional plastering specialist' on his business cards and the definition of 'professional' means: (Quote from the Oxford Advanced Dictionary):'connected with a job that needs special training or skill, especially one that needs a high level of education.

Thanks to each of you for the link but after a few phone calls I am sorted and the work to rectify and finish will be completed by Saturday.

Re: Problem resolved!
Hi Dave, from catching up on the forums I think that other tiler is me. They are friends of mine and I've been giving them advice on this!
Small world eh?

Re: Problem resolved!
You'll have to post up some before and after pics for us mate, maybe even a job of the month entry.
I often ponder over the benefits of mentioning rectification work when advertising etc.

Re: Problem resolved!
Thanks guys, I think it was pure luck that the tradesman and engineer who pointed out some initial faults led me to this forum. Along with the sound advice they and you gave me brought about this result. It could've been so different with me ending up with a substandard floor in two rooms.
To Dave: Yes I have another coming the same week. The other one quit and accepts if what he's done gets inspected it will cost him to put right.

Re: Problem resolved!
Cr0ft will verify that I haven't been at all picky. It was a substandard attempt at tiling by 3 guys who were out to make a small fortune from a naive woman.

Re: Problem resolved!
Lol John,
Thanks, I know Cr0ft will do the job just fine leaving me to enjoy my hols without worrying about tiles popping up all over the place. Getting him to do my plumbing too when I return so I can start getting the room back to looking like a kitchen again.
