I work for some smaller developers without anyone asking for such NVQs or CSCS or even insurance....generally the bigger companies insist on it though.

Private developers don't usually ask for cscs cards.. so you might well be ok..

get your csccs card anyway as you will be reccomended on

you can get the test within days and once you have passed you have a checkable number which is all you need

I would start the work anyway and exxplain that the card is pending, you have come reccomended so you dont need to prove your capable of the work and the cscs is a H&S card for sitework and not all developers ask for it
I know nothing I havent learnt

i would also make sure you know your utr number as he will probably pay you through his books and your figures will need to tally up with the tax man,i do work for 2 private builders and don't require my cscs card but have required it for bigger sites
