Exterior masonary wall tiling...advice please!
Hi all,
I need some advice please and hopefully one of you fine people out there can point me in the right direction!
I'm currently building an external pizza oven which is on a standard dense block work wall with concrete top (walls are only 1.2m x 1m high). I've got a number of granite slabs which are smooth on the back and honed on the front (slabs are 80 x 20 x 2cm).
What I want to do is use these slabs to clad the wall however I'm not sure of the process. I have the usual SBR slurry I can use on the back of the slabs but should I prep the wall first or is it a straight forward wall adhesive and grout? As you can see it's only a small area of wall which needs doing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

hi Rob, I'd use a 2 part flexi adhesive and flexi grout and back skim the slabs.

You might need to mechanical fix them through the joints, those will be heavy slabs..

Hey Doug, thanks for the reply...so it sounds like a simple job then! Any suggestions on the adhesive and grout....I presume BAL is the one to go for? I'm going via Topps tiles in Bristol (Cribs Causeway) tomorrow and for the amount I need to do its probably not worth shopping around for a cheaper supplier.

Dave, have you got any details of the fixing you suggest? The tiles aren't too heavy but I see your point so details would be helpful.
Thanks
Rob

sorry for the delay, got sidetracked, if you have a Tile Giant near you, I'd suggest using Granirapid, I'll put a link for you

MAPEI Hi Doug,
I had a look at Tile Giant's website and they don't sell Granirapid anymore...do you know of any suppliers where I can get it from or perhaps an alternative? I'm reluctant to order it off the internet due to postage costs.
Many thanks
Rob
