Re: Tiling onto New Asphalt
If it is smooth then it is a no go as it is.. when interior use.. then you can slurry coat it for a bond.. but IMO uncouple it with a membrane..

Re: Tiling onto New Asphalt
its on kitchen floor , its basically a lump of black tar , used as damp proofing normally 1 or 2 or more inches thick, i have tiled on it many many times but when its been down for some time ( months to decades old) using acrlic primer + 1 part flexi . i just want to know if there is a standard or reccomended cooling / cureing time before tiling ? thanks Gary

Re: Tiling onto New Asphalt
Just when it is cold... but really you should not tile direct to smooth Asphalt..

I agree Dave, or you can use a 2 part latex screed and skim 3mm over the top to screen it off from the adhesive

Re: Tiling onto New Asphalt
i think keying is the key, i have never had to screed or slurry , i do try to full bed with 1 part and build up to maintain level, i am just worried about any cureing time it may need, i will put off tiling until at least monday, what do you think ?, thanks chaps , gary.

Be careful mate, I don't know of any adhesive that would stick directly to asphalt, and not delaminate later.

Re: Tiling onto New Asphalt
no problem ken, tilemart bolton/preston £25 / 5 litre , make sure you tie your boot laces tight as even when dry its very sticky , if you stand still for too long and go to move you 'll leave them behind....like flypaper for humans....
