Daniel Platt Quarry Tiles - How to Take-up + potential market?
Hi There Everyone,
I have been reading this forum over the months whilst looking for more Daniel Platt Autumn Blend Quarry Tiles following an extension to our kitchen. I am starting to realise that I am fighting a losing battle and so should throw in the towel, take up the quarries and put down new tiles for the kitchen and kitchen extension.
My questions are, please, if anyone can provide advice:
1) What is the best way of getting up 150mm, 10mm thick quarries. They are laid on lino and have been down for only 10 years or so?
2) What do I need to do to prepare the kitchen floor for new tiles to go down in place of the quarries.
3) If I then soak the platts and chip off any remaining adhesive/cement do you think I would get a good price for them? We are broke following unexpected complications with the extension and so are hoping that the tiles will help substantially to the cost of a new tiled floor. Is there a demand for reclaimed Daniel Platt Autumn Blend out there?
Hope you can help,
Cath

Hi, I dont think the tiles would be worth any effort to clean...even if you could. Just get a Kango or SDS drilll and chop them up.

I agree with Neale, I cant see you getting owt for them to be honest.
Have you looked for matching tiles by other manufacturers.

try South Birmingham Collage as they had a lode of pallets when plats shut as one of the managers is related.
but if you are going to take them up then as above.

Autumn blend, brings back memories, used to sell them when I worked for topps. Quite popular back in the day. Though unfortunately I too don't think they're worth much to be honest.
I'd try topps tiles to see if they have any left, and also Tiles in Your Garage - Spare Tile Trading Service just before you do get that kango or bolster chisel out.

Hi NoviceTiler
Did you take up for your flooring in the end?
I have recently moved house and need to replace a couple of tiles on my kitchen steps as they have cracked (just one of the many many jobs that need doing!). I have been told that they are Platts Autumn Gold but I am not totally sure and I can't seem to find them anywhere. If you do take up the floor, maybe I could find a loving home for them !
Thanks

Are they Gold or Blend ( and that's not meant to be a coffee pun!)
I've got some Autumn Blend 150mm and some Red.
But prehaps you need round edge if it's steps.
P.S. Welcome.

I think they are actually Autumn Blend 150mm and I need 6 of the straight edged ones. Would you be able to help?

Re: Daniel Platt Quarry Tiles - How to Take-up + potential market?
Thanks so much to all you kind tilers out there for your help and advice re. my quarry tile predicament. In the end, being an old fashioned sort, I just couldn't face breaking up such lovely tiles with so much history.
So I got a few Platt tiles second hand on ebay (after weeks and weeks of searching) and some other reds from Portugal intermixed. The tiler we used was excellent given they were slightly different sizes.
But now I have the two types of tile I realise what a loss (I think) Daniel Platt tiles are to the dwindling quarry tile market. The quality and resilience of Platts is fantastic. The Portguese ones are rather a joke and a real pain to clean.
Now I am planning to convert part of the garage to an office. So if anyone has any autumn blend quarries out there please let me know. I would be very interested.
