Default Best to tile whole area or just 'around'

    Hi all,

Is it accepted that it is best to tile a whole area rather then tile around items such as kitchen desktops/units?

I am able to have either done but just wondered what the standard practice was?

    Kind regards,
    Richard

I like to tile the whole floor area if you change the kitchen then theres no need to replace the tiles. also it will help to protect the floor area under the units if you have a water leak as detection of the leak will be noticable before the the wooden floor gets to damaged.

But most customers have the kitchen fitted first so i just tile upto the unit feet and under all appliances etc.

If your budget will run to it tile the whole thing, if the tiles are a small fortune just tile whats on show.

I appreciate what people say about doing the whole floor and i say this as a kitchen and bathroom fitter, but if i was having my kitchen replaced id never keep the same flooring as i had previously

as a tiler it's a lot quicker and easier to tile the entire floor before the kitchen is fitted, but if done correct on both options then there is no real difference apart from leaks obviously if it's tiled around the units

If you tile around the units advise them to keep some spares.
