    Default hardboard splashback

tiling a kitchen splash-back soon but where the extractor is there is shinny hardboard the rest is plaster , i wouldn't normally tile on hardboard but the extractor has already been installed, so can't really take it off and put up plaster board ,so was wondering if i would get away with priming the hardboard then tiling it ? tiles will be ceramic ?

It is compressed paper, you should not tile to it..

I would be inclined to replace with something more substantial
