| Damaged plaster | | Hi all,
i'm an amateur DIYer trying to remove the tiles from my kitchen wall, i've been chisling them off and i'm finding that when the tiles are coming off they're taking part of the plaster away with them, it's an old kitchen. Am i doing something wrong with removing them? Also there's still a lot more to go, but it's only from the work top four tiles in height, but they go around 2 walls, if that makes any sense is it easy enough to buy some plaster and re plaster the damaged part of the wall myself?
Any advice would be appreciated, cheers
Glyn! | | |

| Re: Damaged plaster | | Doing nothing wrong mate, there is a dam good chance that plaster will come off with the old tiles.
What are you planning on doing with the walls once the old tiles are off? As in are you re tiling it?

| Re: Damaged plaster | | I agree. That just means the correct adhesive has been used and they've been on for a while.
If the plaster isn't thick that's coming off, save some of the old cleaner tiles that come off and as you tile it stick in bits of tiles where you can to pack the adhesive out a little more. Fidly but very possible if it's only chunks missing. | Dan |

| Re: Damaged plaster | | if i were you i would just carry on dont worry about the plaster just get the tiles off
then patch the plaster with browning or bonding and pva the plaster
and if you need to you could overskim with some mutifinish if your new tiles wont becovering the patched plaster
hope i made some sense to you

| Re: Damaged plaster | | Cheers guys, thanks for the quick response! Yep i shall be tiling over the same area once i'm done. The ammount of plaster coming off isn't too bad, just patches. What's a good adhesive to use over the plaster?
Thanks again | | |

| Re: Damaged plaster | | as you are tiling again, you could always use one coat plaster from wickes, as it's a finishing plaster you can tile straight onto it...it can go on upto 25mm...Mark. | Plastering & Tiling Solutions. |
