Tiler in Coventry
Hi all, I joined a while back and explained my situation, I'm a plasterer of 8 years and can do all aspects of the trade. I did a few tiling jobs here and there. nothing special, the odd wall but i enjoyed it. I then took on a couple of small bathrooms. Again nothing special because i haven't got the experience you lot have got. Now plastering has really dried up (excuse the pun!) and I'm contemplating moving to tiling full time. I've never done anything other than ceramics but am willing to learn. If anyones in Coventry or the surrounding areas and would like a hand then please get in touch. Maybe we can sort something out if you need some plastering doing.

Hi David, I'm considering a course. But I also want to work with someone to gain experience and knowledge because I know from the plastering side of things that a weekend course wouldn't make me a plasterer so it certainly wouldn't make me a tiler!

I'm seeing new vans every week and I'm sick of people calling themselves plasterers after doing it for a weekend. Places like Peugeot have closed and they've been paying for people to go on courses, tools and vans. I'M I've been looking at some of the work on here and its impressive and I would like to be able to do the same. I think I'd get more job satisfaction from tiling aswell.
certainly more job satisfaction in tiling Steve, plenty of guys on here (myself included) have switched from mainly plastering to mainly tiling. Things are tough right across the board at the moment, as I'm sure you're aware.

Hi Steve - I remember your welcome!
We've just had a member on here who turned to the dark side (plastering)and I couldn't agree more with your view of the building industry.
Like your example of the training packages from Peaugot, I can mention the grants given to an ex con (6years ish) he's now with all the electric cutters and van - it puts a whole new meaning to the phrase Time Served Tradesman.

Hi John,
I'm all for giving people a chance and making sure they are in work but there are other trades and jobs that are lacking people. The construction company is suffering enough with having to deal with cheap foreign labour, the recession and builders wanting more for less everyday!

Re: Tiler in Coventry
good luck . however i'll think you'll find tiling is exactly the same . I've been in the trade for 21 years and it's tougher than ever. Too many so called 'tilers'.
