    Default tiling round toilets

    Hello All,

Just wondering, Should I be trying to remove a toilet that's set in concrete or should I just tile around it?

And what if I needed to board the room out before tiling...Should I just cut the board to fit around the toilet too.?

    Cheers - Brendan

i always try and remove the toilet but if there is no alternative(that includes use of a plumber)then i will cut around it as for the ply a jigsaw does the trick for cutting it out

Might be a good idea for me to make contact with a local plumber and get an idea of charges for removing and replacing sanitary ware.

How big is the floor brendan?to add on the price of a plumber

If the toilet is set in concrete am gathering the floor won't need plying out as it should be on a solid floor,if its on wood then the cement wouldnt stick anyway,if the toilet is on a ball fix then the toilet will be easy to take out yourself.

And if all else fails get out your pinchers and nip away

The toilet in question is in my own bathroom (3 msq) floor. But I'm also trying to figure out what to do when I come up against this in the future.

Your right MZ30, just peeled back the vinyl and the toilet is set on a solid floor. I guess this will always be the case if it's set in cement then. It's just one of my concerns when looking at jobs and thinking about disconnecting stuff then having a mare trying to get it back in. like tiling under a pedestal basin then trying to reconnect the copper water pipes...can I just use some push fittings to make up the difference?

I feel a plumbing course coming on.....

    Cheers - Brendan

Cheeers mikethetile...that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

How about pedestal basins? I'm guessing there must be some sort of extensions I can use to reconnect taps to copper pipes...or plastic pipes for that matter.

    Cheers

Brendan as you come more experienced you will be able to see what is suitable for each job,for instance on my own bathroom i removed all saniatary ware as it was on chipboard and easy to remove,on my downstairs bathroom i left them in and cut round as it was on a solid floor an i had no play on my pipes.

Experience is the key with any job mate, when you can walk into a job (big or small) and see the pitfalls and the pluses you have made it,Although 20 years on am still learning

    good luck for the future

yes you can buy tap connectors that are longer than standard and with the waste jus cut it and glue a new piece in

anythings thats bedded on mortar is likely to break when you try to move it
