help with mosaic tiling
Hi there, I'm just about to embark on my first bit of diy tiling and would be very grateful for some advice.
Firstly, I've bought some mosaic tiles for the bathroom wall and was going to do a splashback for the bath and sink rather than tiling the whole wall. I've taken the old splashback tiles off and removed all of the old adhesive so the surface is pretty much flat.
I asked for some advice from the chap at the tile store about how to lay them and he simply said to line up my mosaics by 'eye'; is this right? Having done a bit of reading up the guides seem to suggest using battens and spacers to make sure everything is lined up?
Secondly, with regard to tiling above the bath do I simply use the edge of the bath as my straight bottom edge to start tiling against?
Thanks in advance

benson - sorry its been 2 hours missed this thread.
Mosaic tiling.
Are they sheets of mosaic or a tile cut to look like a mosaic.
You need a very flat wall.
A mosaic trowel 3/4mm depth so no adhesive comes through the joints.
A level line to work to - usually off the bath IF level.
Some small nails to hold the sheets in place, till adhesive takes a grip.
Flat block to press mosaic to the wall.
Use a flat edge - plasterers trowel etc - to lift mosaic sheets to level line.
Correct adhesive to hold weight of mosaic sheets.

Re: help with mosaic tiling
you need to leave a gap about 3mm between the bath and the sink to the tiles so as this can be siliconed when you have finished and this gives you a waterproof and flexible seal.
you can use spacers on there flat between the bath and tiles or pieces off cardboard etc. you will need a good adhesive such as bal mosaic fix or equivellent.
you also need a mosaic trowel 3x3 4x4 etc depending on how thick the tiles are you dont want loads of adhesive squeezing out threw the joints. you say you are doing a splash back so i presume you are just doing one sheet high. you can mark a level line around the bath and sink and keep the top row of mosaics to that line. if you find they are slipping a bit then you can place a small nail into the grout joint to help until it has set.
