hi would appreciate some advice on a job that i am doing, wats the script on tiling over vinyl tiles with chipboard underneath, would i need to take the vinyl tiles off and put 6mm marine ply down over the chipboard???

Hi..
When you say chipboard.. where is this located and is it onto joists..?
If so then you can just board straight over the top but with thicker ply than you mention.. BS5385 standard thickness is 15mm

Yes and No!
Vinyl tiles up - British standard thickness plywood down (more than 6mm).
Have you considered Hardi Tile backer Boards?

is there much of a cost variation on tile backer boards to using the plywood and thanks for welcoming me to the forum only just started so im looking forward to some great advice cheas![]()



Daves post has requested info regarding the fixing of the chipboard.
Is it onto joists or is it a floating floor.
For Hardie the floor needs to be deflection free and it can be almost double the cost of plywood. However it is a cement waterproof board that will not shrink like plywood.
