I did some work on a set at Pinewood for Kubricks last film, 'Eyes wide shut'. We had to frame a picture on set as it was massive. Was supposed to be above the bed in their New York apartment but it was a tight fit and ended up in the lounge. All the furniture was Kubricks and the painting was by his wife.

Was a great day out, cant believe how thick the doors are on the studios!

It was a film called upgrade, might be shown at some film thing next month on the big screen in Edinburgh.

    Not naughty scences unfortunatly

Pay wasnt great for this job but, there is maoney to be made in set construction if you can get into it.

tried uploading more pics but having issues.

New a plasterer who worked on the original Star Wars films and a tiler who done some tiling on a set.

Was told it's almost a decorators field to be in though.

the good thing is that it doesnt need to be done to the same standard as it would be in a real home etc as there are usualy tight budgets. Gives you a chance to have a wee shot different trades too.

I errected the frame out of3x2 cls and normaly the studs would be centre every 400mm but, on this set there was approx 1200mm spaces bewteen each stud. The frame was then sheet with 6mm ply, which wasnt ideal as some of the edges had warped when I went back to the studio the next day. most of the skirting etc was done with one sheet of MDF.

Haven't done any sets for film but in a previous life was a stage manager, both touring and resident, so assembled lots of sets for incoming shows and built sets and props for some of our own events and local amateur companies.

have never done any work on a film set but did get a extra scene on a show called spender starring jimmy nail, when they filmed in the boro and shot some scenes in a local night club. really strange being in the club during the day and pretending it was night time. First and last time that i ever came out of there sober.

Did get asked by a production company to make a 40cm x 40cm Roman mosaic portrait over 3 days as part of an archaeological program. Over the course of a few emails it ended up as a 5' x 3' panel (a corner section of a larger floor mosaic).
For this I would just get my expenses paid, they unfortunately didn't have the budget pay me anything for 3 days work.
While it would of been very good publicity for me it wasn't feasible to take that time off then. If I'd been up to date with all my work maybe I would have done it for nothing but where do you draw the line?

(apparently if they want a mosaic floor for a film then they just get some art students in to dab paint the whole thing)
