    as above pal, alot of tile and adhesive stockists will sell adhesive that they reckon you can tile onto chipboard with , alot of the chipboard nowadays is treated ,and not suitable for tiling onto,

    I'd use hardibacker 250 to overlay the chipboard Carl, it's only 6mm thick (plus adhesive) so you won't have to many worries about height issues

    Chipboard is just not a good tiling substrate overlay or take it up

    just use durock cement board and make sure that you screw it well down 2 the chipboard

    Depending on the chipboard you could use 10mm of weber floor flex self levelling compound
