Different heights for wall tiles in the

To add.. On the right side of the archway next tot he cooker.. drop it back down to 5 tiles high.. so as ken says you just tile within the hood perimeter and then drop back down to cupboard height either side of the hood..

Exactly as Dave and Ken have said.
Dont use pva on those plastered walls.

Thank for the responses guys - that makes sense.
Yes, these are 10x10 tiles and you are pretty accurate in estimating 4 and a half tiles between worktop and wall unit. Tilers eye I guess!
The right hand side of the units and worktop only have about a 20mm gap before the left hand side of the archway. I guess I tile to the end of the worktop/units, finish with some trim, and leave this 20mm gap? On the other side I intend to start tiling level with the front of the cooker, not from the arch.

Thats what i would do. Have the trim finishing on the edge of the worktop. Just make sure the wall unit is in line with this.
