hardibacker 250 boards as an overlay mate, they're only 6mm thick, (plus adhesive)

Thanks Doug, quick reply as always. I'm thinking I'll try to strengthen the floor with extra noggins if possible. Never used hardiebacker; what's the process? Adhesive + fixings? Is it easy to work with?

easy to use mate, solid bed of addy and screwed every 200mm, tape the joints with fiba tape before tiling. As with ply overlay, leave a 2mm gap between sheets to allow for a bit of expansion.
Hardest thing is cutting the stuff, but an angle grinder will cope easy enough

I don't use an angle grinder on this stuff any longer, not after reading the H&S sheets. If you can, use a knife to score and snap

The silica in this stuff is nasty! I used a reciprocating saw on the wall boards last week with some success but with all things it kills the blades. It does make less dust though

I dont know how your going to add noggins without taking the floor up, if your taking the floor up replace with 18mm wbp

I've just used hardy 6mm on a chipboard floor also 4 meters, and its easy to score and cut , to the customer it looks professional with all the joints taped etc ! the customer had 3 guys in before me to price the job up and all 3 said they would ply the floor then pva before tiling . on my quotation i stated that i don't use ply in a bathroom and would use hardy 6mm ! and any areas to be primed would be primed with the correct primer and NOT pva ! .... so by spending Ten Min's explaining to the customer i gained there confidence and got the job ! small floor and 12mts walls plus future recommendations.

walking down a busy town/city street with all the car exhausts spewing carcinogens into the air can give you cancer, end of the day, we all have to make a living
