Tiling above a bath
When i strip the old tiles off my bathroom wall I know for a fact the walls are going to be bad. The wall is plasterboard so can replace with new or possibly hardibacker over the top. This being my house I can remove the bath if need be.
My question to you guys, if you were doing this for a customer how would you go about this to avoid removing the bath? If you were to go over the pb with hardibacker one side of the bath would then be approx 9mm smaller and probably look out of place, yes?
Removing the plasterboard with the bath still in place you can only go as far as the height of the bath leaving a big horizontal gap the lenghth of the bath.
How would you go about it?

Re: Tiling above a bath
Take the bath out and reboard the wall 12mm hardi or similar. Refit the bath after and tile
If its worth doing then its worth doing right

Re: Tiling above a bath
The horizontal gap under the bath is usualy left out to a certain degree if the wall had solid plastering.
I would take the existing plasterboard off and replace with new

Re: Tiling above a bath
plus if you remove the plaster board it will give you the chance to put noggins in to strengthen the wall because there are never enough!
Might as well do the job correctly as you have gone through the effort of asking the correct advice.
