Default Which trowel and natural stone border advice

    Hi

I have a couple of questions on a job i'm on , the tiles are ready to go tomorrow . they are 333 x 250 x 7, the substrates are fairly even.

    1,Will my 6mm trowel suffice ?

    2. I have a marble border 50 mm to seal - can I seal it after it's up , if i do it before , I presumably have to wait over night for it to dry before fixing. I really want to crack on with the job .
If this was the case , would i just measure and leave enough space between tiles to fit in the next day ?

I'm on a sharp learning curve , thanks very much for any advice.

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Firstly I would use an 8mm sq notched trowel, particularly on a wet wall area, secondly, if you are putting up a border, sometimes it's easier to do the bottom half up to the border height, then work up, from the border to the top. Hope that helps.

Bed them in as tight as you can and leave at least 48 hrs to dry if the substrate is porous, if not then you might have to leave a lot longer.

    what you tiling to..?

Leave 48 hours before grout?? 2 of the walls are tile over tile , one is mostly tanked and the other is plaster .

You will find that with the larger tiles on a substrate that isn't porous you will have to leave a lot longer to dry , as dispersion adhesives need contact with the air and a porous biscuit and background to set.

For this reason among others i do not use tubbed gear...

OK Thanks , what would be a good cement based to use on the non porous walls , ie tiles and tanked? ... and do I still need larger trowel or are we talking smaller?

it could be 2 weeks before that adhesive would be dry IMO as whitebeam suggests cement based would be your best bet :Pete
