    Question help please

    Hi
I, tiling my newly fitted kitchen walls and looking for bit of advice.....Using Travertine tiles 10cm x10 cm. I have the right adhesive and trowel thanks to you guys but just a few tips please.
    • Range cooker has a steel splash back that goes up to wall cupboards so splits the wall. Has its a feature do I start with full tile from the splash back outwards or still from the middle of each part of wall.?
    • Tile trim fits good with a full tile but protrdudes slightly with cut tiles. How do i get round this.
    Any suggestions

Starting from the Steel splashback would be my 1st choice.
As for the trim either get deeper trim or better still no trim, I like the look of travertine edges as long as you polish them up a little.

You can use sandpaper to improve the edge. Dont expect a perfect finish but it will be a whole lot better. Travertine is quite easy to smooth down.

i would also go with full tile from steel back splash but i would step tiles across to see how cuts work out for plugs etc you dont want to be left with an inch gap at the end of the wall or a big grout joint down the side of your plugs . imo dont assume it will just workout from the splashback although that would be my first port of call when setting out.

    Hi,
Another idea if the you have a window sill to tile with this job .....
With the trav and stone jobs I have done (no trims) I let the first front sill tile row protrude the facing tiles (usually its over a sink too) only 2mm this gives a very slight edge to create "a sill" and is not too weak to break off.
and at the ends were it joins the vertical recess I cut it into the front tile (ie slot it to receive the sill tile) its only a subtle slot > 5mm but it creates a neater finish IMO and looks like the wooden sill would have looked by overlapping just past the verticle edge as opposed to just butting up and sticking out . It isnt everyones cup of tea just as trav and other stone doenst suit every application.....but let the customer decide....hope this helps ?
