Marky says !
Ok a slightly different post, hard to find just one category for this so i will post it here.
Its a thread that could go into "I recommend my Tiler", "Marketing", "general chat" and probably a few others.
So to start at the beginning, A while ago when my workload was not too good I received a phone call from a company wanting a floor tiled in a Market Hall over the Easter holiday. I was recommended by a local tile shop i use andwhen the company contacted the tile shop for a recommendation their requirements were...A tiler that will work Bank Holiday and get the job done on time, A tiler that "WILL" turn up when agreed and A tiler that wont turn up drunk.... Now god knows what experiences they have had in the past but anyway...I went to see the job and a price was agreed also a date for the job...There was a 3 day turn over for the contract including all their work. Luckily for their part the could remove all the counters and re laminate them away from the floor area and so were not in my way.
Well as these things happen as soon as i said i would do the job, the phone started ringing and i was working flat out to get everything done.
Just after pricing this job i received another call but this time from a guy on these forums (Marky) and not too far away either. It was a general call as an introduction and seeing how work was. He told me his work load was slow and we chattted for a while. After our conversation i began to think that it would be good for both of us to have another chat and i offered him some work on this market hall over the Bank Holiday. He agreed and times were set to meet on site.
Sure enough he was there before me and ready to go, now bearing in mind we had never met each other and i feel we had the same concerns over how we would get on and how well we would work together. I have to say from the 1st handshake i felt very much at ease, on setting out the floor I couldnt help notice Mark wasnt with me but was getting water ready and buckets, getting power for the cutter and mixer set up....All without me asking or saying. It was obvious that we worked in a pretty much same sort of way and never needed telling what was coming next. Anyway during the day we worked as if we had known each other and worked together for years.
Mark struggled with my Sigma but agreed it was technique as i was cutting the tiles with ease. We had plenty of chance to chat about who we had worked for and who we knew in the tiling game. talked of different products that we had used etc.
We completed the tiling ahead of my initial thoughts as i wasnt sure of what he was capable of at the time. By 4pm we had almost 39m2 laid and after a final clean up of the work area and tiles we were away. All that was left was grouting on bank holiday Monday morning which was complete by 11am. Again we both worked as one without any disagreements. The client is more than happy with the job, I am more than happy with giving Mark the job, I am very grateful that he gave his Bank holiday time up and i also so pleased he took the time to have that phone call that day.
So.... I recommend TilersForums.co.uk | Tile Forums | Tiling Forum - View Profile: marky as a rated tiler.
It also proves the power of the forums, as i believe that without them he would have not made that call that day. So thats the Marketing sorted.
And for "General Chat" I feel i have made a new friend and hopefully we will work together again.
I hope any advice i have given him over the last 2 days will work in his favour.
Lastly Mark applied to someone requiring a tiler that was in the I'm Looking for a Wall and Floor Tiler - TilersForums.co.uk | Tile Forums | Tiling Forum Forum. i am happy to say he got the job and will be commencing in the next few weeks. After seeing Marks work not only on the floor we tiled but also his portfolio, i know that client will be more than happy too.
PS...Oh yeah the title of this thread " Marky says"...Well Marky says, never go to the toilet wearing latex gloves and zip up flies on your jeans

I wil let him tell you the rest

Re: Marky says !
Funny how things work out, I had a couple of artiicles in the Tile UK mag. I got a phone call out of the blue, from a guy in Cannock complimenting me on my work. We seemed to hit it off from the word go, we have kept in touch over the last few years.
I gave him a lift on one of his jobs in Cannock a couple of years ago. I am now working with him in Ashbourne, strange how you can gel with a fellow pro, no need for words, just do the job. This tiler is a member of TF user name Richguy. A real gent, big lad, ex pro boxer. So we should get paid OK, nice to find a kindred spirit. This forum is packed with them
