Re: homes on homes!
Aston - looks like you should have made a bid to manage Kate - so much more to offer and you wouldn't need to tile to make a living!
I love DIY shows - hire 235 tradesmen and fit a bathroom in a day -how do they get everyone including the camerman, lighting rig, sound boom and make up artist to fit into a 8' x 6' bathroom??

Its not much fun! I fitted a kitchen on a TV programme and it was awful, presenter was horrid and looked down at everyone. She walked through the bathroom with her stilleto heels on an ungrouted mosaic floor and pulled a load of them up, then made really snide comments about the homeowners design ideas just cos she didnt agree with them.
We only had a crew of 3, presenter, producer and camera guy who did his own sound too. Had a total of 9 peple working in the house when i was there and could hardly move. Also had to fit the kitchen over a limestone floor that was laid the night before with normal set addy and ungrouted, tiles were moving all over the place.

Re: homes on homes!
Thx Scottley - at last I have seen a bona fide tradesman confess to nearly being a TV star!

What gets me laffing is Nick Knowles on DIY SOS plastering a room. I know how hard this is to get right - I don't believe it for a minute!
Anyone else any experience of TV makeover work?

Re: homes on homes!
They had Carol Vodermans 'Better Homes' in Leighton Buzzard a few years ago and a friend of mine worked on them. He said they had the plasterer skim the walls in the morning and by lunchtime they had 2 coats of paint on it! Apparently it looked awful but the crew said it was 'camera perfect' and they say the camera never lies???
As for me, they say 15 minutes of fame, mine wasnt even 15 seconds just a quick flash of the back of my shirt and bald head!

I could never get my head around that whole "48 hour makeover" thing. like you say - how the hell can you skim a wall and paint it the same day? I notice on some shows they import loads of space heaters after plastering - makes you wonder how long the lucky punter has to spend with Polyfilla making good all the cracks in the plaster the week after the camera crew disappear!

Re: homes on homes!
This question was brought up on Diy SOS..
They use a paint that allows the plaster to still dry..without causing probs..I ain't a decorator so if that is right.. who knows..????

they use micro porous paints..they let any mositure out but protect from the outside
apparantly they work ??
totally agree tho over letting plaster dry naturally rather than using heating or dehumidifyers...

Re: homes on homes!

Re: homes on homes!
Like all things getting it right takes time. 60 minute makeover is the funniest by far just purley on the fact that i seem them fit a ktichen on one!
I do like the DIY sos humour, except for that chippy who used to nark me with his attitude towards the woman interior designer. Although i dont like interior designers (esp the one i met) i did feel sorry for her at times
