setting out problem
good evening
wondered if any body would help
i am tiling my bathroom top to bottom , brick-bond ,with an 8 by 6 inch tile
and an inch and a half marble mosaic border
two walls are 5 inches lower than others because of two small sloping ceilings
setting out height wise i have good cuts everywhere except below window cill where the tile is an inch and a half
have tried all ways
the border looks good below window, if i moved it above. i would get a three inch cut on tile
the next available height for border is 4 foot seven inches
is an inch and half tile below window enough?
or would border 4 foot seven inches off floor look good?
i think both would look wrong
any ideas?
thanks cleve

Re: setting out problem
could you not put in a 3 inch cut along window and build up the sill

Re: setting out problem
Dot and dab some plasterboard to bring up the cill

Re: setting out problem
The most important areas are the cuts above the bath and the cuts to the ceiling and floor - in that order.
Don't worry about a smal cut to the cill - its only 4/5 feet long and as others see if the cill can be increased to give an extra inch or so.

Re: setting out problem
thanks quick replys
setting out gives me at least three quarters tile everywhere except below cill
cill cannot be raised
only 1inch of window frame showing , would be half inch after tiling

thats what I was asking
if you have equalised everywhere and have at least 3/4 cuts theres not a lot else you can do as unequel cuts will unbalance the setting out
its not unusual to have to compromise somewhere and under the cill wont look out of place
better than over the head of the window
I know nothing I havent learnt
