    Default plumbers strike again!!!!!!!

started a bathroom on wednesday after the plumber had done his first fix.
finished tiling the walls and floor by 7pm friday so i thought i would leave the grouting until monday as the plumber not due back in till tuesday. told the customer and no problems there. so this morning i went to watch my son play football and my phone goes at about 12. customer is on the line saying that the plumber has been to fix all the fixtures back in ie shower, sink, toilet, shower door and towel rail, seems he has just booked a holiday for next week and decided to finish the bathroom for the customer, customer asks him about the grouting to which he relied that it shoud be no problem for me. customer is not so sure so asked me to have a quick look. no problems with the shower toilet etc.....but.....the towel rail is 5 ft tall and 3 ft wide the slats are spaced at 2 " intervals and the whole thing only sits 3" of the wall??? any suggestions about how i grout behind. cheers all

    very sneaky.....

The other alternative is to turn the valves off, remove the towel rail and grout behind it. Its a pain, but the customer may appreciate it....... oh, then you could smack the plumber next time you see him....... or even better drop a big dollop of rapid set into his tool bag

Joking aside, isn't it always the same, the tiler will get around it, makes the blood boil, even the site agent for Barratts marked onthe floor 'make square' meaning for us to square the wall tiles to the floor where the stud wall was out I asked why they had let it go ................... just got a rye smile and a stuttering excuse

That is why tiling is a wonderful trade... coz every other trade thinks we can get over anything.....
That wall looks bumpy ,the customer says to the plasterer, OH! the tiler will get over that..
Is it best to remove the sink and toilet before tiling, the customer asks the plumber... yes.. the tiler will sort that..

plumber drills holes in the tile in the wrong place tiler will get over that meaning although the tilers completed his job he has to come back and replace the tiles happens to me a lot

I had just finished a 600x300, just loading the van. Plumber arrives grinning like a baboon, I am in the bathroom giving it the final check. Plumber pushes past me saying silly me I put the shower control upside down, before I could react he produces a lump hammer and whacks the cut tile around it. I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed, it was the hardest cut on the job. If it wasn't for the fact my son was there and had to physicaly restrain me I would be doing time now

Reminds me of a time many, many years ago, I was working as a labourer on a big restaurant job, total gutting then refit.

We're on the first floor getting ready to relay the floor, plumbers disappear upstairs.
About 5 minutes later water starts pouring through from the ceiling and running down one wall.
Plumber sticks his head down the stairs,

Turns out they went to remove the water tank, cut through the pipes but forgot to check if it was empty first!

As a plumber am sorry we have upset so many but actions mentioned here happens to us with other trades, there seems to be a lack of respect between trades now, also were a few trades are involved in a job organized by customer, plumbing, electrical, tiling ect,I try to get others numbers, give a ring and discuss what we are doing and when, the plumber should have rang the tiler and checked what could have been put in ,he could have hung towel rail and left disconnected ect
I would add I have had argued with customers before when they want stuff put in before others have finished,a lot of the time they want as much done,as soon as possible
Have been called to jobs, saying I am holding up everyone by customer and get there and like above grouting not done or skirting not fitted before rads go on,and the customer demanding items fixed
If a tradesman came into one of the jobs I had done and attacked it with a hammer, especially if it was his fault think I would require a bit of restraint, however that is getting back to lack of respect !!
However would add a lot of plumbers have cut their holidays down to maybe 5 or 6 a year,so we have more time to fit round others

Thats why i do everything on my jobs as its jut hassle otherwise, as i tiler and fitter i understand all the hassle between trades. The only hassle i get now is with the sparky getting in the way.

Im looking at getting a tiler in to do all my work now as im getting fed up with it and want more time at home with the kids. At least from my experance i appreciate what we all have to put up with from all sides

I've heard it happen before and the guy lost his mate, some money, and a good working relationship. So bite your tongue if you need to and don't bring it up in the pub.
