    Default Window recess

What's the best way to keep the tiles fixed to the underside of the recess? I used lenghts of batton for each tile, but is there an easier way.

    another related question:
Which is the correct way to put the trim on? i did it with the flat/flange side in the recess. i ask because i'm taking tiles off for another customer and the trim was around the outside of the recess!!

The best way is the way you feel comfortable with, Battens are ok, I use 2 woodworkers clamps that can "spread" as well as clamp

And the trim should fit inside the reveal.

if it's for the window head you can use shorter versions of these props with one batten spanning the window head tiles and these props tensioned up onto your batten

I rarely use anything to hold them up other than the suction from the tile adhesive itself, and also fit the flat edge of the trim on the wall as oppose to the reveal. Each to their own method but bein doin it this way for years with success

if you google plasterboard props, you get loads of results aph. I'm surprised that tradetiler doesn't stock them though

I use those too doug, full size ones propped off the floor. I use them on all headers as i had a tile fall off once and damage a vanity worktop.

Got them from Aldi of all places, i think they were about £6 each so ridiculously cheap.

(Work well for holding skirting boards on until the gripfil goes off too if you lay them across the floor)

Same method here... i can hang a 12mm stone slab and it won't drop off...it's all in the suction as they say..

I got one from Aldi too Scottley, only when I put a bit too much tension on, it snapped the trigger

As above I use suction for soffits. But on heavy porcelain over the window head I use the same as Doug. The 1st ones I bought were from B&Q £20 then I bought some more from Aldi the £6 ones all still going strong, I have six now. Handy when you are doing a bathroom with two windows and a door

back buttered tiles and strong adhesive for me, if there's anything delicate underneath, then battens cut to the right size with door wedges to take up the fine gap works well for me, but I may invest in the extendable clamps now if they are that cheap.

I normally have faith in a backskimmed tile with decent addy on the window head, but, have been known to use the telescopic arms from my Stabil laser level, if I have any doubt.

This is one of the reasons I'm pretty fussy about which adhesive I use, love the fact that my usual adhesive can hold 600x300 porcelain above a window all day long without dropping.

The props do look a good idea though, as sometimes if you have a dip inside the corners of a window you'd rather the tile is supported rather than just hanging on suction.
