Re: practice wall
fasten some plaster board to the side and off you go.
Achitrave down one edge and in the middle form a window to cut around.
Maybe use ply or chipboard as you will be able to clean it off better.

Re: practice wall
What about building some sort of small wall in your large shed from concrete blocks? Good experience for plastering, and if your wall/plastering is bumpy, it'll be a good experience for real world tiling.

Re: practice wall
If you use plywood and then cover it with a cheap grease the adhesive will stick but then be easy to remove afterwards, it's what BAL used to do in their training centre. (Not sure if they still do)

Re: practice wall
thinking outside the box a bit and not at all sure if it would work but so you get more than one go with the wall without having to replace the board would it be useful to put wallpaper on it first to make stripping the practice tiles off reasonably easily..?
you must all buy this song from any good download site for just 79p. Proceeds to Blesma, RAFA and RAFBF charities

Re: practice wall
Wall paper does work but the grease is easier, you can just apply it with a grout float and it only takes seconds. Also with the grease you can pull off the tiles and re postion them with the wall paper it sometimes comes off when you pull a tile off.

Re: practice wall
Prime the walls with undiluted PVA for an easy strip.

Re: practice wall
Chipboard painted with yacht varnish makes a good practice substrate. Holds just enough to fix tiles with a cheap ready mix adhesive and then grout, but not too hard to strip back and scrape off ready to go again and again.

Re: practice wall
If you nip down to your local tile training centre, they should have some training adhesive that they might sell you..

Re: practice wall
Then ask all of your friends and family for any old tiles they have knocking around. Its amazing what you will get to free up some space in their garages!
I look out for the buggared sheets of plasterboard in Wickes - may be no good to use in the real world but 50p a go its alright for a dummy run in the shed/garage and they are more than happy to get rid of it.
Good luck with it.
