    Rounded notch trowel.
Square will give you about 90%
    Round will give you 100%
    Well thats the idea anyway

Depends on the configuration of the spacing between the the teeth.... but mostly round notched gives better coverage....but you need to check on the spacing..

Height needs to be deeper than the width of the spacing between ribs.

Depends how far apart the notches are, there are some new trowel designs with variations on V shaped notches at different angles that allow the adhesive to fold in on its self thus giving better coverage.

Without being too technical the coverage I receive is strictly related to the type of music I am listening to at any particular time!
I get a much better coverage using a Round trowel while being entertained by Radio 1 - and the Square trowel usually comes out of the tool box for Radio 2 or Magic.

Have you tried any of the new V notched ones Phil? I saw one by Karl Dahm that gave brilliant coverage.

Do you mean the thin-bed solid-bed trowels?
Like normal trowels but with extra bits cut out, for tiling wet (wall) areas?

Only tried to it at a demo a few years ago but it seemed really good, the rep who was there said they couldn't get anyone to sell them in the UK. I suppose it would use a lot of adhesive like a tipped trowel but I'd rather guarauntee the coverage, saw another one from some American company that was similar.

Could imagine these using a LOT of adhesive and wearing out within a week.
