    Default Tiling behind oven

    Hello all,

I'm going to be tiling a small area of wall behind an oven. There are wall mounted cupboards on either side of the area to be tiled with an extractor fan above. fairly standard.

My query is this. One of the cupboards sits out from the wall a bit and I will be able to slide the edge of the tile behind it to hide any cut, but the other cupboard sits right on the wall which means the cut will be visable and Will need to be grouted. It's not something that will really stand out, but it just wont look perfectly symetrical. Just wondering if this is acceptable or not. Not sure I want to start taking cupboards down and re fitting them.

    Cheers - Brendan.

you can mark a centre line in the midle of the wall (centre of the extractor) and work your tiles out from the line so as the tiles are equal in size against the cupboards, if one slides behind it etc this wont show as there will be still the same equal size showing against the cupboard you can then silicone against the cupboard and tile,
    I hope this helps

    Cheers Peckers.

That will mean that there's a line of silicone down only of the cupboards, With the tile sliding behind the other. would this be ok?

I would put silicone down the length of both cupboards so as it looks the same.

That what I mean Peckers. The cupboard sits out so far from the wall you could probably slide 3 tiles behind it, So there'd be too much of a gap to use silicone. So the silicone line will run up the side of one cupboard, under the extractor fan then just stop where the fan meets the other cupboard.

That would look bad IMO, if the unit is sitting that far away from the wall then the wall is bowed somewhere, it could be at the top of the unit where the brackets sit or the wall below the unit dips in. If it is the latter i would straighten the walls up with some either plaster or addy. If it's at the top, kick the kitchen fitter in the shins and tell him to stop being lazy

I reckon it'll look bad too. but the kitchen was put in ages ago and the fitter and his shins are long gone. I've had a level on the small bit of wall I'm to tile and that's fine though.
