About to begin, but then....
Hi,
I'm a DIYer in need of some advice for my sister's bathroom project. I've helped my Dad with work before and was reasonably confident but, when stripping out, have found mould on plaster and timber under the bath. Haven't encountered this before so looking for some advice before carrying on.
The source seems to have been two areas: a poorly fitted shower screen for the over-bath shower and a crack in the grout between the first and second rows (again, at the end nearest the shower). I'm assuming the wall behind the tiles will be damp.
Both of these sources will be removed with the new work I was planning but I need to to know what to do about the mould and an indication of how deep the damage behind the cracked tiles will be. How is this likely to take to dry out?
All help welcome.
Cheers,
Dave.

Re: About to begin, but then....
Hi Dave, I assume you're removing the old tiles and not tiling over them? (should be easy to get off if the wall behind is damp) That's your next job; get them off the wall and see how bad things are. Difficult to say how long it will take to dry out (any chance of posting some photos on here?) but it def needs to be dry and sound before you tile or even attempt to make good any damage.

Re: About to begin, but then....
you will see the extent of damage when you strip out completely, you need to replace any rotten timbers, diluted bleach is great for removing the black mould and killing it off, then its a case of making shore you applie and tanking that you should for the correct areas mate, look at the tanking/waterproofing forums on here
