Hi all,

Doing a wet room floor in trav mosiacs on monday. Can i tile straight over the vinyl floor that is down now, its glued really well. What type trowel should i use, normal floor trowel or 6mm wall trowel. Thanks in advance for all replies.

I wouldnt leave it down as it could debond in the future even if it seems well glued now doesnt say in time it wont....remove the vinyl and any glue residue ( heat gun will help with this )...prime with bal apd neat and tile using bal rapid flex white and grout with bal wide joint grout with bal GT1 admix.....seal the tiles before and after grouting.. use a 6mm solid bed trowel ........dave..

Thanks for the good advice dave. Job was going good until i found out that the extra tiles i picked up from the shop yesterday were the wrong sort

Would the floor not need to be tanked?

I forgot to mention the tanking ..sorry there simon..was more concerned about the vinyl sheet coming up.....if the floor is concrete then just tank with balWP1 and if its timber use schluter kerdi or bal WP1..presuming the floor is sheeted with ply and thick enough to accept tiling....if not you could use backer board and tank this instead......dave..

p.s. if the backer board is water proof then no need to tank it....
