Floor tile shinanigans...

Hi All,

I've got a job next week, 9m2 ceramic 300x300 floor tiles. Easy on the face of it. However I have only seen an architects drawing of the job, and I can't get access until the day the job starts. Under normal circumstances I would go and quote, measure etc etc etc. However as this could be the beginning of a lucrative sub contract for a new and large kitchen showroom/fitting company, I dont want to make a fuss, just do a good job and get the contract.

I have to self level the adjoining bathroom, that bit should be easy. However the new floor tiles are going on top of the old ceramic floor tiles. I am aware I should use a slurry coat to make the surface condusive to the new adhesive I will be putting down for the new tiles. However I will have to level the adjoining bathroom first, so it drys for me to tile the following day. This brings level issues, like I could be making up 3/4cms If this is the case I would imagine i should use 18mm ply. I have a couple of questions;

1. What mix should the slurry coat be and whats the best product for this purpose?

2. Would it be easier to lay the main body of tiles in the kitchen in order to get a level for the adjoining bathroom?

3.[/quote]I doubt you'll need a slurry coat,just clean tiles and lay with flexi adhesive.With the highest room tiled first this will then tell you which thickness to board the rest and which is the most appropriate.Obviously all the grout must be flexi throughout.....Gaz

I agree with gazza ..cant see a need for a slurry coat on this project either....lay first floor then it will give you your heights for bathroom..............dave..
