    Default tiling on timber worktops

Hello tilers, i have a question which i hope someone will be able to help with, i have tiled some kitchen splashbacks which sit on top of solid oak worktops the client told me these had been sealed 3 times with danish oil before fitting, once grouted using standard white bal wall grout and wiped down, the egdes of the worktop have stayed a dark colour as if there still wet also there was a strange smell when grouting, its only been a day since doing the job so i am hoping there just damp and will dry the same colour, but i was wondering if anything in the grout could have reacted with the oil, also i dont think the tops were well sealed as they were advised to do them again once fitted, has anyone else ever come accross this situation, all advise welcome.

Some worktops come pre-sealed and then need further sealing once installed. There is no set number of coats, they should have as many coats as it takes until the wood can no longer absorb any more, in addition it is best practice to seal every couple of weeks as and when after installtion for the first six months then every 3 months until you are doing it just twice a year.

I would leave it a little longer to see if it drys, how long was the wet grout in contact with the worktops before you cleaned away?

Similar to certain woods used in skirting/architrave that stains when it comes into contact with water.

Thanks for your quick replies, the grout was only on the tops for a few minutes it was mainly when wiping down using a clean sponge, i popped round this afternoon and told them to leave for couple of days to see if it dries out.
