side door good idea.got astra envoy.great runner, economical but a pain for loading.going to try vauxhall combo with side door next.load tiles behind seats via side door tools via back.good luck
I agree berlingos are great van's I would avoid small Renault's and any traffic, primastar, vivaro before 2005. Gear box problems!
Transit connects are best but in the small van category but will cost you more than a same speck berlingo.
Best bit of advise is get something you can afford!
I started with a Mondeo estate. Soon ran out of space. Now got a Citreon Relay Van. I can't fault it, Good reliable van. As can get as much in it as I want. You can pick one up quite cheaply. Just take a mechanic with you to look it over don't want burnt fingers.

Started with a Renault Kangoo..............got to small.
Now got a Renault Trafic..........great van![]()

got a berlingo brill van but already too small
I have the Transit connect and it's greatI am running low on space though plus you are restricted on the size of boards and ply wood you can fit it.
When I was looking about a year ago it seemed ones with side doors were quite a bit more expensive hence I don't have one. It's not too bad, just have to contort yourself a bit to get to the back!
I have the trafic and the vivaro both grat vans but at the end of the day it is down to budget

M-B Vito every time for me. Two sliding side doors and 180 deg opening barn doors on the back so it can be loaded by forklift. Very comfortable and economical to drive as well.

What about one of these??

Berlingo 800Kg with side door. Fine for me, roofrack needed for 8 x 4's though!

Ford Connect for me with side door which is very handy, sometime I think I could do with a bigger van but would probably just fill it with more tools that I probably don't need on a day to day basis, only real pain is can't get full sheets of ply in the connect so it has to be half sheets and can't fit roof bars as I keep van in my garage and would not fit height wise with bars on.
hi Berlingo vans are fantastic starter vans cheap to run and some newer ones come with side doors. that was my first van. have scince moved onto transit connect swb fantastic looking abit bigger than the berlingo for space. things are getting tight now for space due to taking on bigger jobs. hope this helps![]()

VW LT 28, lasts for ever, can carry tons of equipment. I have only had VW's

Dispatch for me, 2 sliding doors, bags of room and reliable.

i would advise to get one with a side door.I had an escort van but found it inconvenient for kids etc and for getting stuff in and out.I would also get a connect or a vw transporter.

Me too, although at 18months old, my intercooler pipes have just been changed as they leaked everywhere, and also my power steering fluid burst all inside my engine bay. I also have a hole wearing into the drivers side footwell. All fixed under warranty apart from the rubber floor which is not covered and is "wear and tear", but what damage has been done? Can't fault the van though aside from that.
I had a 59 plate connect while they were fixing mine. I LOVED the new computer, which tells you how many miles left in the tank etc, but didnt like the new cup holders, that arent as deep, and my drink fell over
No armrest in the new one either. At least not in the one I used.

The cup holders are there for tea and coffee.................not pints of bitter.
