You should use a barrier cream, i use one called liquid gloves, but when you are grouting you should wear gloves, all the time.

Are they sore because they are worn or is it cement burns. If it is cement you need to deffo start wearing gloves - You don't want to start suffering from Chronic Eczema which cement can cause if you become sensitized. I always wear heavy duty latex gloves for relatively light work - They are like Surgeons gloves so they take quite a bit of hammer. Tiling my hall way I only went through 2 pairs and I get them from work FOC by the box so not really that costly. Most of our concrete depots have Derma Sheild dispensers but all our operatives must wear gloves.

To put it right into context I have a freind who used to be a ground worker. I say used to be cos he cannot work at the moment. He got some concrete inside his welly whilst pouring a concrete floor slab about 12 months ago. Instead of stopping and sorting it out he just carried on cos he thought he was "tough" and as you say " it won't happen to me will it" and of course he had a job to get done and finished. He ended up with third degree burns over his entire foot ankle and part of his calf. He ended up in hospital. He caught a dose of MRSA whilst there but that got sorted in the most drastic way. They took months to sort it and in the end it went sceptic and he had to have his foot amputated just above the ankle..........extreme case I know but cement burns can be extremely nasty - not trying to scare monger but I feel extremely strongly about this as you can probably understand. No job of work is worth serious health issues for the simple expedient of wearing the right PPE. Could you earn a living tiling if you lost a few fingers let alone a hand.......Wear gloves buddy!

    Sorry - end of rant

From the sounds of things marke your NOT married and must be single!
Because if you have a lady she wont let you near her with 'work' hands.
There is a thread on the forum ref - what gloves do you use - and no one said none.
Ajax hit it on the head - its not a tough thing - use gloves!

I've been married a long time and my wife often says to me ......................Got to go I forgot its friday!

I pop a pair of surgens gloves on for grouting but thats more to save me washing and drying them if I want to touch door handles etc. just whip them off and bang on fresh ones when back on the grout.

only ever use gloves with rapid set grouts, slower setting grouts dont bother me. but then i use barrier creams most days to stop hands drying out,
BUT I WOULD AGREE IT IS BETTER TO WEAR GLOVES WITH CEMENT BASED PRODUCTS

Had concrete burns when doing printed concrete, they are savage. That includes in the boots, god knows how and they were small but it would burn into raw skin. Tender for weeks and extremly painfull.
