Hi all.
I've just taken out a mediumweight advert with yell.com which hopefully will provide me with a few extra jobs, then today I get a phone call from yell.com mobile which is not the same as yell.com I was told that for £250 a year they will add me to thier 118 service & I'll get advertised on yell.com mobile which is essentially for iPhones & blackberry style phones.
I just payed £250 for the yell.com advert & I'm not really sure if this will pay for itself as I get most of my work through trade recommendations & word of mouth?
I'd be interested in all your opinions on both these sites from anyone who has advertised on them, did you get any work from it?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Re: Advertising
The yell.com ads works for some people others not, but how could they price yell.com at £250 that can be accessed by anybody and then value yell.mobile at the same price which is only used by smart phones??
You should be on the 118 service anyway

Re: Advertising
Yes I get the feeling it's a bit of a scam, the reason I payed for the advertising instead of going for the free listing was it is supposed to put me above any other free listings in my area, I was told I'd be added to the mobile listing too, but so far no sign of that although the other tilers in my area with free listings are listed on the mobile listing?
Must say I'm a little bit dissapointed but just wondering if these sorts of listing generate any extra work & couldn't see any treads about this already here.
Also they made a load of spelling mistakes on my profile page that I had to change!!!

did you not get anything from a whole year with a paid advert?
I'm not really sure if anyone gets trades by looking in yellow pages or at yell.com I know if I was doing any work on my place I'd get recommended people from other trades, but I guess if you don't know any trades you might look on yell.com?

Re: Advertising
A mate of mine spent £500 on yell.com a couple of years back (under bathroom fitting) I was surprised by the amount of calls he got as I told him it was going to be a waste of time for that money.
The year he had it i think he got 4 jobs out of it before he moved to Croatia, he still got calls so he passed them all onto me, out of 3 calls I won 2 direct jobs but 1 of those lead on to 3 further jobs for their mates and I've still got a kitchen booked in next year to make it 4.
I think it's worth it if you are doing high ticket jobs like bathroom/kitchen/extensions etc. etc. but if you are advertising in trade specific areas tiling/plastering/plumbing I wouldn't be happy with 10 leads a year for that money

Re: Advertising
Probably better to run a small ad directing them to your web site, as you can get loads more info on a web site.

Re: Advertising
i pay a similar price for a priority listing with yell.com. It hasn't really got me much work over the past 10 months, maybe 3 quotes and one job. A mate of mine in the area who is also a tiler seems to get alot of calls from yell.com with a priority listing but he has a link to his website on it. Dont think i'll bother again at that price. I've got most work from leaflet drops and word of mouth, leaflet drops really suprised me. Got quie alot of work from them
