hi all , been to look at a job today bathroom its completely empty want me to tile floor to ceiling before bath is put in, is this all right to do i always thought you put bath in before tiling thanks rossy advise would be very grateful want me to start as soon as possable.

It is normal to tile to the bath when installed but what if he has a free standing bath? Also any cuts are then hidden behind the bath instead of being on show at the top of the bath, along with less liklyhood of any leaks causing problems with the substrate as everything is tiled and therefore sealed.

Only issue would be securing the bath to the wall if it is that type of bath, what would you do then, cut into the tile for the brackets or drill the tile and have the brackets on top?

its a normal bath that will be going along back wall and onto side wall will it damage tiles...

Don't think it will damage any tiles. There are guys on here that do plumbing as well, they may be able to enlighten you a bit more. I had been told by someone that it was now the law that baths must be set into the wall but I can't find any documantation to back it up. Don't think it is true myself but you never know.

Most baths have a chamfered edge so when the bath is introduced to the tiles it will leave a large silicone joint which will look crap..tell the customer to put bath infirst .
1 : better seal once tiled....

2 : looks better regarding the finished seal depth........................dave..

thanks for help i think customer just thought it would be easier for tiler and then just get plumber to put everything in hope she can get plumber straight in, many thanks again..

the bath needs to be fitted first especially if its going in a corner of the room and the walls are not square 90 degree corners there will be a big gap along side of bath when fitted

I know im a newbie and all that but a simple question for the customer

Why waste tiles and work that wont be seen??? Why pay fior tiles and fitting for them to be hidden by the bath?

if the tiler makes the walls square with the tiles the bath can be put in at any time alot of people are having wetrooms with baths in these are tiles in full floors and walls before the bath is fitted (free standing or fitted)

lol....what i meant to say was for the plumber just to first fix the bath so that the tiler could get on..no plumbing done just legs etc..........dave....

10 mins was just a figure of speach..should have said 5 mins...lol lol lol lol....

I would say bath should be in first if possible.
