I think as we head to Christmas its either going to quieten down for those who have not got a full order book or you are going to get panic jobs where people realise the VAT break runs out soon.

But I believe next year is going to be much better.

I think the point I might want to make is not to worry if you are quiet this side of Christmas.

From our own point of view (we are not tilers - we are a manufacturer) there is resistance to new business this side of Xmas. All the buyers we are making calls to tell us to contact them in the new year.

So we have almost given up on generating anything new for 2009.

But I may be comparing apples with oranges so dont take our view too seriously. Their may be tiling job up for grabs between now and the end of year. If there is then its probably time to do a leaflet drop!

One thing I've noticed is our local free newspaper is stick thin. Content is sorely missing. They are advertising a rate of 2000 leaflets in a paper for £275. I recon you will get a high readership because there's sod all else in the paper to look at!

There will be alot of things bought for bathrooms etc (like tiles) before Christmas as Richard says due to VAT increase.

If they waited 'till the sales they would be alot cheeper anyway!

I have solid good work for the next five to six weeks, waiting on one job. Things have picked up over the last couple of weeks. This time last year i was turning away work every other day. Who knows what the new year will bring. Keep plugging at it guys if things are slow in your area.

Hello I dropped them myself,i wont do this again though i got 10000 cards printed the leaflet delivery company was pretty reasonable but i didnt want the cards delivered with a load of rubbish,a few here and a few there are ok but i had the time and i could do with losing a stone or so,also you discover a lot of things on foot,4-500 a day is about it though depending on the hills and size of houses also you have control of the areas,if you are working in an area its not so bad just driving round the corner for a quote, also scheduling is easier,i find the cards are prompters ,a lot of the people that have called me havent called anyone else yet

always keep your cards on the van with you and if you finish a job a hour early for example dont just try to rush home run up and down the road or surrounding roads with them i know you wont be able to do hundreds but you never know !
