Wide range tiling
Just wondering if any of you guys have heard of wide range tiling (online company) or even better have used them?
Basically a customer has ordered from these and bought a package which comes with free adhesives and grout. Just wanting to know which brand they send??
I'm expecting something cheap and nasty, having looked at the site, and am a bit dubious about using it! In fact a lot dubious! Lol.
Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Re: Wide range tiling
a few places about glasgow are doing similar deals, tiles, adhesives, trims and grout. once priced a job and refused to use there products and used my own gear, customer accepted so everything was fine,in general i wouldn't use anything from a name i don't recognise.

Re: Wide range tiling
hi mate they send biscem adhesive
see data from their site
Biscem Showerproof is a specially prepared PVA tile adhesive suitable for use as a thin bed adhesive. Showerproof can be used for most applications of ceramic wall tiles to a variety of substrates such as masonry, sand cement plaster / render, correctly prepared gypsum plaster, existing tiles, tile backer boards and plasterboard.
Biscem Showerproof tile adhesive is suitable for use in internal dry wall applications, such as kitchens, bathrooms and correctly grouted domestic showers.
note the word pva in there in the first line, if it was me i wldnt use as prefer my own gear, but others may advise differently

Re: Wide range tiling
Yes this is my local tile place (actually it used to be my dads) I dont think you will have problems at all. Biscem is a good adhesive and if you are not happy then just use what you want and keep the Biscem for smaller jobs.
As for the company , they havent been online for long but their Ebay shop is doing well and i believe have 100% feedback.
They have been trading for ablout 30 years too.

Re: Wide range tiling
Is it walls or floor tiles.
Wall grout is usually Weber.

Thanks for the replies people.
Just a bit dubious about using a product never experienced before. But if it's got good feedback then I'm happy to try it, if not supply my own. Pva aspect has slightly concerned me I must admit.
The prices seemed to be really cheap. £300 for 20 m2 wall tiles and materials. So was expecting a b&q economy type brand. Now I know otherwise.
It's Walls and floor btw ramic!
Thanks again.

At those prices the tiles sure as hell wont be top quality but i dont think they will be as bad as some B&Q type stuff.
They will obviously be supplying a cement based adhesive for the floors though.
Why not ring them and ask?

Hi Mate,
I guess it depends on what type/ size of tile they are supplying.
e.g. 20x25 bumpy white ceramic tile costs £0.45 per tile, 20 tiles cover a square metre.
400 of these tiles will cover an area of 20sqm at a cost of only £180
this leaves plenty of room to inlcude adhesive, grout and trim and still achieve a decent profit margin.
The above price was from a national tile retailer!
Depends on what tile the customer bought, a salesman will always try make his sale sound great and adding in some items that appear to be free extras is an easy way for them to do this

I would be interested to hear your thoughts when you have used the materials supplied. Please report back.

How did you get on with this job?

Re: Wide range tiling
Biscem is great adhesive, wouldn't hesitate to use it at all. However, don't really like the Biscem Showerproof (buckets) as it doesn't hang well, but the rest of their adhesives are 100%.
Not any wonder they're giving the Biscem Showerproof as their free adhesive choice, I can get it at my local supplier for £6 inc vat.
