Default Do we have $185,000 thousand dollars? Lets start our own domain!

From 2010 the internet corporation for assigned names and numbers (ICANN) will liberalise the market for domain names.

Currently all addresses end in the extension such as .com and .co.uk etc

But new rules mean your domain can now end with anything!

What are the benefits? Small business can associate itself with anything like locations or even theme based domains.

So for example if we so choose then we can launch .tiler

What do we need if we want to set up your own registry. Money: The entry costs are $185,000 dollars plus you need the technical competence to run the service.

Will someone launch the domain extention .tiler ?

I cant afford it but if it was done then of course I would register

    365drills.tiler

Anyone ready to get the .tiler domain (or the .forum domain) should go over to icann.org with a cheque book at the ready!

Hi Richard , Having . Tiler as a Domain would do any Pro Tiler with an Internet presence good. However 185,00 Bucks is as you say to much for one man. Maybe some like minded Tilers should join together and buy a.Tiler Domain?

I'm guessing you get to then sell domain names based on that? I can see this encouraging more entrepreneurs and the likes to get area names and then sell the domains to businesses or something.

I wonder how Google will manage with it, if it's give more weight or less weight to uncommon domain names. I know .edu and .gov domain names have more importance in Google, or it used to, so if you got a link toy our .com/.co.uk from the homepage of one of those you'd get it ranking better pretty quickly.

If I had that sort of money to invest I'd go for it with .tiler or even .trader and sell it to all the lads at a sound fee. Though only if Google liked it.

More confusion in my book, getting more and more extensions will just lead to longer lists of search results if your not sure of what you want.
