Question Wax coating on porcelain tiles

    Hi again,

After reading so much about porcelain tiles in this forum I felt I had enough information and confidence to go ahead and order the 600 x 600 tiles for my hall floor. I asked the internet supplier about the transport wax coating and he said that they removed it before the tiles were sent.

When I opened the packs I found the tiles have a mottled appearance and when I questioned this with the supplier he said that not all the wax is removed by them but that the grout liberally applied will remove the wax.
    Should I believe this?

Reading threads about the need to seal porcelain tiles to protect from grout invading the tile surface I am very doubtful about this so I really need advice please.

Please also recommend the best product to remove residual wax coating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    not wexa dave, WAX OFF..

it dilutes most stuff into a snotty mess you mop up with paper towel...its great!

wax residue comes of cleanly and easy with NO effort, just let it rest on the wax for 5 mins... and all is good!

I love this forum. Was on site with a client yesterday and they had had an issue with their screed which I sorted fairly quickly but then got talking about the tiles. She had a couple of samples on site, limestone, marble and porcelaine. She said that sh had expected the porc to be really glossy but the sample she had was disappointing. The marble was too pricey and she was not happy with the colour of the limestone so in step me having read lots of posts on the forum and says have you removed the transit wax from the porcelaine cos I thought it would come up much shinier and less "greasy" looking. I explained I am not a tiler myself but had been subscribing to this and thought Porcelaine would normally have a wax on it. She said she did not know it had a wax on it (no not B&Q this time) and she would have a go. Anyway she phoned me today to say thanks for the advice. she had used a wax remover and polished the porc and it had come out beautifully. She is now using that and I have a customer for the future.....result. Thanks forums.

Hi to those who have already given me such good advice. It is hard to believe that you good people have the time and goodwill to respond so quickly so thank you very much for your time.

The next question I have for Ajax 123 is what product did the lady use to de-wax her tiles please?

    Cheers to all.
