I just wasn't sure if you have to insulate first to stop the heat from the mat going down into the floor.

you could lay insulation boards on the crete to assist heating but if heights an issu i wouldnt bother, just tell them that it will take a wee bit longer to heat up

It will take longer to heat up as you will be heating up the 75mm below the mat as well.
You are right to think about an insulation board onto the concrete first as it will certainly make the UFH more efficient and save your customer a lot of money in the long run.

i always insulate over concrete, but not always over ply!

warm up times will be increasded dramatically with no insulation over concrete!! 2hrs ish!!!

what would be the rough cost of insulation board for 6 m2? what type of board would you recomend? sure it would save ££££s in the long run.

It will save money on the running costs...heating a full slab before you get any transference back to the tiles is very costly..

6mm or 10mm boards ain't that much height increase for the extra benefits it will give..

Uheat have some great prices on the their cement faced insulation boards..

and here is a nifty measument guide to how many you will need.

A single part flexible adhesive, could prime the screed if it's dusty
