A good joiner can do tricks with a timber joint.i use to machine timber and seen some nice ones for the job but timber can mark easily though.hardwood is the usual though.

That's a lot of layers!! Just wondering.. Can you use no more ply, instead of usine ply then a backer board? Might tale one layer out of the equation.

Remove the floor boards and add extra 3x2 noggins every 400mm. 18mm ply over that, screwed with floor screws, not full threaded every 150mm. Glue the ufh cable to the ply with a hot melt glue gun. Laytex slc over it, then tile.
Simple. Will save you at least 25mm in height.
Can't understand why you would even contemplate all those layers. The above is as solid as the house structure will allow. No matter what else you add, it won't be any stiffer.

Ply dose insulate to a certain degree if height issues weigh up more than running costs.

Ufh is usually fine for up to 120 watts per sq meter without thermal boards. It's recommended to have them above this.
I did a tiny en suite job once where the heat output was around 175w/sqm as it was intended as primary heat, no room for a rad. I slc'd first, ran the cable, then slc'd over it, that was 5 years ago and they're still very happy with it.

    Hi Mate,

If you choose to go for the bevelled timber method you can simply just cut get a piece of timber cut it just a bit longer than the width required and plane a chamfer to the desired depth using a hand plane or even an electric planer and then smooth of with a peice of sand paper. after you have meade the chamfer cut the timber to size and then fit. you can purchase plug cutters to cut holes into the wood for screwing through the timer and insert the timber plugs back in after you have made countersunk fixings.

Another method with this one is routering a groove into the underside (on the side of the timber that meets the tile), this is handy if you have used timber thicker than the depth of the floor as it can overlap the tile.
