problem with reciprocating saws is you run the risk of hitting pipes or cables, most rip saws allow you to set the cut depth, even fein tools can hit services if they are very near the top but a bit of tape round the blade to set a guide does the trick

i have also purchased a bosch multi tool, the blades are cheaper, dont fit my fein but they last just as long, if this tool would not be used often i would get a Bosch one £59.99 from a shed.

the prob is not being able to get in close enough with most power saws because of the two walls one at the end and one along the side, i was thinking dremmel whith little circular saw on the end if this exists

I know where you're coming from but at that point you can lift the adjacent boards, inspect the void and then finish off with a hand saw if no services are visible

You missed my post Gooner, Aldi where doing one for £40 with 3 blades and 20 sanding sheets and a 3 year warranty only last week. I have a 1st gen fein, a cordless bosch and now a rip off copy from aldi and they would all do the job for you. The fein is the original and best see trade tiler, and ask sir ramic about the adaptor to take bosch (cheaper ) blades.

same here whitebeam and much prefer it to the 2nd gen set up.

sir ramic posted a link some time ago to an adaptor to allow the bosch round hole blades to fit the fein star drive shaft.

if your stuck with getting a 2nd gen fein its the only way to use the bosch blades
